Server, network & data racks — from 4U to 45U

4U–15U Wall-Mount Network Cabinets

Compact single- or double-section cabinets for switches, patch panels, DVR/NVR, telecom and AV equipment. Confirm equipment depth, cable bends and the wall/support suitability before choosing the cabinet.

Specify: 4U, 6U, 9U, 12U or 15U; 550/600 mm external width; 400/500/600/650 mm external depth. 2U can be discussed for compact installations.

12U–45U Floor-Standing Server Racks

Cabinets for server, networking and data-room equipment, with adjustable mounting positions, removable panels and agreed doors, cabling and cooling provisions.

Specify: 12U, 15U, 17U, 20U, 22U, 24U, 27U, 30U, 32U, 36U, 42U or 45U; 600/800 mm width; 600/800/1000/1200 mm external depth.

Data, Telecom, DVR & AV Racks

Application-specific layouts for structured cabling, equipment rooms, security systems and AV installations. Select wall-mounted, floor-standing or an agreed open-frame configuration to suit access and ventilation.

Specify: Equipment list, mounting format, total rack units, usable depth, total installed weight, cable quantity, power distribution and site access.

Rack sizes and dimensional meaning

1U is 44.45 mm of rack mounting height; it is not the overall cabinet height. The 19-inch mounting format is distinct from the external cabinet width. External depth is not usable equipment depth: allow for mounting rails, connectors, power cords, doors and cable bend radii. Not every height/width/depth combination is a stocked standard; confirm the selected build.

Doors, panels, cooling and accessories

  • Doors: lockable front glass, perforated or steel doors; rear access and detachable side panels as agreed. Choose perforation/airflow around equipment cooling requirements.
  • Mounting: adjustable 19-inch mounting angles/rails, equipment hardware, fixed shelves and compatible sliding/keyboard trays.
  • Cable management: horizontal/vertical managers, brush entries, top/bottom entry and blanking panels.
  • Power: compatible rack PDUs selected for voltage, current, socket type, earthing and connected load; socket counts alone do not establish electrical suitability.
  • Ventilation: fan trays or roof-fan provisions, filters where appropriate and a coordinated room-cooling plan. Fans alone do not guarantee equipment temperature.
  • Mobility and stability: castors, levelling feet and anchoring provisions where specified. Static loading and loading while moving must be confirmed separately.

How to choose a rack

  1. List every device and add its rack-unit height, with space for patching and future additions.
  2. Check the deepest device, rail compatibility and connector/cable clearance.
  3. Calculate total installed weight including shelves, PDUs and cabling; confirm the cabinet and site support rating.
  4. Choose wall mount or floor standing, front/rear access, door type, cooling and cable routing.
  5. Approve the accessory schedule, dimensions, finish and installation scope before ordering.

Quotation prerequisites

Rack type and U size; external W × D and required usable depth; equipment list/weights; door and side-panel options; mounting-rail requirements; shelves; fan count; cable managers; PDU requirements; castors/feet; finish; quantity; delivery location and timeline.

Construction and load ratings: sheet thickness, mounting-angle construction and static/moving load capacities are confirmed for the ordered model. No universal capacity is implied across the full 4U–45U range.

Outdoor racks, IP-target cabinets & custom IT infrastructure

Outdoor server, telecom & data cabinets

Custom outdoor cabinets can incorporate 19-inch equipment mounting, cable-management space, a mounting plate, plinth, canopy, sealed doors, gasket and lock arrangements. Configuration depends on the installed electronics, climate, maintenance access and the specified ingress-protection target.

IP-rated is a tested performance claim: specify a target such as IP55, IP65 or IP66 and agree the complete tested configuration. Open indoor rack doors, perforations or ordinary fans cannot be assumed to retain an outdoor IP rating. IP67/IP68 immersion requirements need a separate feasibility and verification review, not a generic ventilated rack.

EnvironmentEquipment room conditions and access arrangements.Rain, wind-driven dust, sunlight, humidity, corrosion and site exposure.
CoolingEquipment airflow and room cooling; perforated doors/fan trays where specified.Engineered cooling compatible with the protection target; review solar and equipment heat loads, condensation and power.
Width / depthAllow equipment rails, cable management, doors and service access.Allow additional space for sealing, cooling, cable entries, plinth and service access—not just equipment depth.
Material / finishSpecified steel construction and indoor finish.Environment-appropriate coated steel, GI or specified stainless steel, compatible hardware and coating system.
Mounting / securityWall mount or floor standing, castors/feet as agreed.Base or pole/wall mount, anchoring, weather-sealed entries, access control and site security.

What does U mean in a server rack?

U is a rack unit: 1U = 44.45 mm of nominal mounting height. A 4U cabinet offers four rack units and a 42U cabinet offers forty-two; the external cabinet is taller because of its roof, base and construction. Add up device U heights, patching, blanking and future expansion before selecting 4U–45U.

What are 19-inch mounting channels?

The 19-inch designation refers to the standard equipment front-panel/mounting format—nominally 482.6 mm—not the cabinet’s outside width or a guaranteed clear opening. Vertical mounting rails/channels hold compatible equipment and shelves. Confirm hole pattern, rail adjustment, equipment rail-kit compatibility and front-to-rear mounting distance.

External depth versus usable equipment depth

External W × D × H describes the cabinet body. Usable depth depends on rail positions, front/rear door clearance, equipment connectors, power leads and cable bend space. A 1000 mm deep cabinet does not automatically accept a 1000 mm deep server. Confirm the device’s chassis and rail kit dimensions and service-clearance needs.

Custom data and IT racks

Discuss non-standard cabinet dimensions, equipment mounting plates, segregated compartments, customised cable entries, removable panels, branding, shelves, PDUs, keyboard trays, fan/cooling provisions and installation interfaces. Custom dimensions and accessories require a drawing and compatibility review.

Five steps to choose your rack

  1. List devices, rack units and maximum equipment weights, with spare capacity for growth.
  2. Confirm mounting format, rail kit and required usable depth—not only overall cabinet size.
  3. Choose indoor or outdoor construction and agree any required IP target and evidence.
  4. Plan cooling, power distribution, cable management, service access and support/anchoring.
  5. Approve drawings, accessory schedule, materials, finish and project-specific testing before manufacture.

Send the U size, overall dimensions, minimum usable depth, equipment list/heat load, static and moving-load requirements, material/finish, requested IP target, quantity and site location for a quotation.
